Etape Loch Ness

I heard the excitement in her voice, Well as much excitement as a Yorkshire accent can actually convey, "A closed road sportive around Loch Ness, I've got to do that." Problem was the only spaces available were charity and I don't get why people should sponsor me to enjoy myself so I didn't fancy it but Julie being new to proper cycling ie road it was still enough of a challenge to warrant it. So in the depths of a Scottish spring we made our way to Inverness.

Put a Spring in your Step (or Skis)

I'm starting to fall more and more in love with skiing. When you get that flow and build up speed it's exhilarating and being in the mountains in wonderful in itself.

After two years of research and development, BrightsparkGlobal launches a crowdfunding campaign to make its sought-after product available.

Things to do on a Bike This Year: Mountain Biking

I'll be honest I don't do anywhere near enough mountain biking. Before I succumbed to the lure of Lycra and shaved legs I liked nothing better than tearing around Afan. Well that might be stretching the truth a little. I smoked so I pushed up the climbs and I'm a bit of a wimp so I used a lot of back brake on the descents, but even the worst day I ever had on the Knobblies was still a beautiful day in part. Mountain Biking always leaves me smiling.

Things to do on a Bike This Year: The Alps

Did you see the recent TV show Tour de Celeb. It was one of those shows with minor celebs , but it was about cycling and more specifically the Etape de Tour on roads I'd ridden a few days before. So putting aside my dislike of reality TV and my natural Welsh revulsion at Austin Healey I tuned in and you know what? In between the weeping, gratuitous lycra clad bum shots, histrionics and daring do I was reminded of last summer and my own journey.

Cognitive Bike Therapy

I had to pop somewhere early this morning. The mornings have quickly got dark and it was a touch chilly to say the least. I could have taken the car but what's the point in having powerful lights and warm kit if I don't use it? Riding in hitting patches of fog from the river I hit that sweet spot that cyclists know. A perfect equilibrium where all seems right with the world where time seems to slow down and all that matters is the feeling in your legs and the hum of the road under your wheels. I started to think about all that cycling has given me

See.Sense Icon Bike Light: Tested and Reviewed

Autumn is almost here and hardy tough cyclists such as myself thoughts are now turning to darker mornings and evenings. Commuting, training or pleasure we'll need to be visible as the long sunny summer days become but a distant memory.... WAIT hang on a second! What long sunny days? This summer has been awful in this part of the world and I've needed lights all season. Thankfully the Icon has been on test since April.

The Bike Deserves a Holiday Too

All year you ride your own bike. You set it up for you. You know it's idiosyncrasies. The saddle is moulded to your bum. It's yours, it's part of you and then you go on your cycling holidays and what do you do? You leave it behind like an unloved elderly relative.

Ahead of Le Tour - A Morzine Road Ride

Morzine in the Portes de Soleil is well known as an adventure hot spot. Once the white stuff melts away come spring, the baggy shorted, hairy legged arrive en masse to take advantage of some of the best mountain biking in the world regardless of if it's Downhill, XC, Enduro or simply high mountain trails to drink in the views. What about the men in lycra you ask? Well it's Alps and of course there are steep and high cols, fast rolling roads and all the ingredients for cycling nirvana which I just couldn't turn down the chance to discover for myself.

Mountain Mayhem 2016

Like all 40 something cyclists I'm a bit of a frustrated racer. I'd love to race road but due to the medication I take for ADHD I'd have to go through the faff of organising a Therapeutic Use Exemption Certificate and be prohibited from taking it on race day. I'm useless without it so I'm in a bind. Three years on I'm still not any closer to making a decision so when the chance to race as part of a sponsors team at Mountain Mayhem the 24hr Endurance Mountain Bike event came along I purchased some baggies, grew my leg hair and headed off to the Princess Royal's back garden ie Gatcombe Park, to make my competitive debut.
