Matt Holland

We put the Danner Explorer 650 boots to the test with mixed results. It started well, went downhill, then with a little user intervention regained it's initial heights.

It may be the start of the school holidays but already the nights are getting longer and it won't be long before another winter is on us. In preparation we've been looking at 4 season sleeping bags and Matt got his first look at Vango's illustrious F10 range with a sleeping bag rated to -12.

Designed for carrying comfort the Lowe Alpine AirZone Pro packs, 35+10 or 45+10, combine good ventilation with an easily adjustable back system that reinforces the brand's reputation as one of the best rucksack producers in the world.

Soft, stretchy and quick drying, Mammut's MTR 141 is one of the new generation of "self regulating" shirts. Designed to adapt to your body temperature it tips the breathability v wind resistance scales slightly in favour of breathability while the elasticated fabric ensures a well fitting garment.

The Coleman Fyrestorm combines remote canister stove performance with highly efficient wind protection in a stove that's ideal for DofE participants.

The latest lightweight shell from the Berghaus team combines Extrem level performance in a UK-compatible jacket. Utilising Berghaus' own Hydroshell 2.5 layer fabric it's designed for summer backpacking without taking up excessive space in your pack.
