GP Batteries Supports Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team's Life-Saving Work Featured

Written by

World-leading battery manufacturer GP Batteries UK (GP) has donated its handheld torches, new headtorches and rechargeable batteries to Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team; helping the charity to continue to effectively carry out its vital work and save lives.

With 60 volunteer members, Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team provides a search and rescue service for injured or missing walkers, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Members are called out by pagers to assist the police in cases of lost walkers or by the ambulance service for those injured.

GP Batteries has provided each volunteer with a 300 lumen rated GPDesign P53 torch, from its award-winning BEAM range, its newly launched GP XPLOR PH14 Head Torch, which features red night vision, spot and flood beam, three brightness modes, 200 lumen, IPX 6 rating, flash and red SOS mode and safety lock, plus a number of its Recyko+ Pro rechargeable batteries and battery charger.

GP's rechargeable Recyko+ Pro batteries will power the rescue team's pagers and medical diagnostic systems, while the head and handheld torches will assist in the charity's night searches.

The rechargeable Recyko+ Pro batteries, which can be charged up to 1500 times; will not only give Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team 1500 x more battery usage than a single-use disposable battery; saving them money, but 1500 less batteries will have to be used and recycled or sent to landfill; saving the environment!

Chris Thomas, Equipment Officer for Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team, said: "Most of our searches for overdue or missing walkers are at night. The GPDesign P53 torch is ideal for effective night searches; lightweight, super bright and with a long run time. The support we get from GP Batteries enables us to what we do best, saving lives in wild and remotes places."

Jon Wickham, Fundraising Officer for the charity, said: "Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team is very grateful for the generous support given by GP Batteries. By providing torches and batteries to power our pagers and medical diagnostic systems, it has reduced the burden of fund raising allowing donations to be spent on vehicles radios and specialist rescue equipment."

Marketing Manager for GP Batteries UK James Tuck, said: "We're proud to support the vital work of a life-saving organisation such as the Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue Team and are pleased our products are playing a part in helping the team to perform their duties more effectively.

"We are passionate about the outdoors, so working with an organisation that helps people stay safe in the outdoors made perfect sense. We recently launched our ‘Recharge the Outdoors' campaign, which challenged the whole outdoor industry to switch to eco-friendly rechargeable batteries in a bid to try and reduce the 600 million batteries thrown away in the UK every year*. We suggested the team try our Recyko+ Pro rechargeable batteries and hope that the many benefits they bring - not just to them, but also to the environment, will persuade them to continue using rechargeables in the future."

In 2017 the Team assisted with 26 searches for missing vulnerable persons, 42 spot pick-ups of injured persons and a further 5 incidents where they assisted participants on events such as the 3 peaks Cyclo-cross and the Borrowdale Fell Race. During the adverse wintery weather conditions in December they provided emergency cover for the Northwest Ambulance Service, using their 4X4 front-line Land Rovers to reach casualties not readily accessible by road ambulances.
