MyOutdoors reveal new Trail and Ultra-Running review team

Written by

As Autumn approaches fast and the UTMB just days away we're finally in a position to reveal our new look Trail and Ultra Testa nd Review Team.

The last 18 months has seen our running content increase dramatically under the leadership of Running Editor James MacKeddie, with a series of in depth product reviews and groundbreaking live Twitter commentary on the 2016 Spine Race. Reaching an audience of over 200,000 unique accounts in covering the Spine Race we decided it's time to assemble a team of athletes to help expand our dedicated running gear reviews and after what seems like an eternity we're delighted to add 3 new members to the team.

Lakeland 100 21

 Matty Brennan

Matty Brennan Profile

With a CV including 6 Lakeland 50's, the White Rose Ultra and the UTPD Matty is a long distance specialist, with a preffered race distance of 26 - 60 miles. Based in the East Midlands Matty's favourite areas include the Peak District and Lake District National Parks. As an experienced blogger with his own site we're delighted that Matty has joined our review team.

Over the coming months Matty will be testing a range of trail running clothing and footwear in real-world conditions. Matty has a unique writing style with an ability to ask the questions of an every-day runner - looking at the small details like accessibility of features while running and identifying both positive and negative aspects of design and function.

As part of the Mountain Fuel team Matty will concentrate on gear rather than nutrition to avoid any conflict of interests.

Giles Thurston

giles bw 490pxWith almost 15 years of outdoor writing in the bank and a wealth of ultra race experience Giles is a very welcome addition to the review team. Based in Cambridgeshire Giles travels extensively, with the motto "the hillier the better" and doesn't really start counting until he's passed the 30km mark.

Recent race history includes the Lakeland 100, Norfolk 100, Cumbria Way Ultra and the Peddlars Way Ultra and has provided running images for Ultra magazine.

As an accomplished candid photographer and social media proponent Giles brings core skills to the team where we're traditionally leaders in the field and will be reviewing the full range of products with no sponsor related conflict of interests.

The Ibex

Alpine ibex small

Some say he has a treadmill attached to the bottom of his bed so he can run in his sleep. We just know them as The Ibex.

The Ibex is our mystery runner with a superb CV of trail and ultra running throughout the UK and Europe. With sponsorship and a highly visible day job in the trail running industry The Ibex brings a unique perspective to the team but has to remain anonymous for commercial reasons.

While part of the Review Team The Ibex will be providing just half a dozen in depth product reviews but will also bring an insight into podium level running.
