The summer-long #MyTentView photographic competition, in association with outdoor gear specialists Terra Nova Equipment, attracted hundreds of entries from all across the UK, and further afield. All showcased the unique scenery that only campers and adventurers get to experience.
Such high standards meant judging the stunning collection of entries was a genuinely tough task for MyOutdoors Editor Dave Mycroft, Terra Nova Director Carolyn Budding and Marketing Manager Heather McWilliams.
However, after long deliberations the winning picture they selected was a beautifully composed image taken by Matt Holland on a walking tour of Wales’ Elan Valley and Plynlimon.
Matt wins a cutting edge Terra Nova Southern Cross 2 tent worth £490.
Said Dave: “The quality of the entries was extraordinary and many of the images highlighted excellent camera skills as well as the amazing scenery that we as adventurers are privileged to enjoy.
“Matt’s picture showed a great understanding of composition and also captured the true spirit of camping – that feeling of opening the tent in the morning to endless possibilities of the day ahead.”
Added Carolyn: “It was great to see so many different styles of photographs. For me, Matt’s picture perfectly illustrated the simplicity of camping and that very personal experience of exploring the countryside in a way that makes great views like this accessible to everyone. You could just imagine being there.”
“Choosing a winner from our shortlist was such a difficult task that we felt the other photos deserved both recognition and a prize to mark their achievement.”
The five runners-up chosen by Dave, Carolyn and Heather were:
A stunning mountain and lake vista by Graham Bradshaw
Paul Gurney’s stunning image from an expedition to the North Pole
Harsharn Gill’s atmospheric portrayal of Greenland’s great outdoors
Alex Taylor’s superb view of Dove and Hart Crags in The Lake District
A spectacular backdrop from Bill Robertson’s camp
They each win a:
Terra Nova Unipod trekking pole – the top of the trekking pole has a hidden camera mount
Wild Country sleeping bag liner
Such has been the success of the #MyTentView competition that plans are already in hand to run a similar competition next year. So photographers... keep snapping and watch this space.
