Throughout the festival, the brand will showcase its latest performance outdoor kit, along with stories told directly by some of the high profile outdoor adventurers who use it.
This year’s Kendal Mountain Festival will see the debut of the Berghaus ‘Extrembox’ outside the event’s Basecamp, which will give people the opportunity to try on some of the brand’s latest Extrem gear and experience a simulation of the harsh conditions for which it is designed. Extrembox will be opened at 11:00am on the Friday morning by Berghaus ambassador Leo Houlding, who will be the first person to enter the storm chamber. Visitors will then be able to try the Extrembox throughout the festival, and will be encouraged to post their reactions on Instagram, tagging @berghausofficial, for the chance to win one of three Extrem Vanguard Gore-Tex jackets, each worth £550.
Several Berghaus athletes will be making appearances throughout this year’s KMF. Fresh from achieving the first recorded ascent of a 4,720m peak in the Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan earlier this year, Ed Jackson will be joined by filmmaker Matt Pycroft for a live podcast in Kendal Town Hall at 9:30am on Friday 21 November. Later that day, at 5:30pm, Leo Houlding will take to the stage in the Brewery Arts Centre to share stories from his family’s year-long journey around the world. Leo, his wife Jess, and their two young children rented out their home, packed their bags, and set off to explore. From carving fresh powder in Japan to climbing the mighty El Capitan, their travels took them to some of the planet’s most iconic wild places, and Leo will reflect on the highs, lows, and life lessons from a year spent chasing dreams together. Friday will conclude with the now traditional Berghaus party, this year taking place in the Barrel House.
On Saturday 22 November at 12:00pm, Ed Jackson will join designer Alice Sainsbury on the Basecamp stage to discuss the Berghaus Adapts initiative, which helps people who are living with disabilities access the outdoors, by making bespoke changes to clothing and equipment. There are 16 million people in the UK living with a disability and the lack of suitable kit is a barrier tospending time in nature. For the last five years, Berghaus has used its resources to adapt kit for Ed, a recovering quadriplegic, and this year, the Adapts programme was opened up to a cohort of applicants from around the UK. Designer and accessibility campaigner Alice Sainsbury led the initiative and will discuss the project and its impact with Ed. It will be the start of a busy day for Ed, who will later try the Extrembox experience at 1:00pm, before hosting a special session about his book ‘Lucky’ in the Brewery Arts Centre’s Malt Room at 6:15pm.
At 1:00pm on Saturday 22 November, mountaineering legend Sir Chris Bonington will join special guests at Kendal Leisure Centre for a very special event to conclude a year of celebrations that have marked the 50th anniversary of the 1975 British expedition to climb the south west face of Everest. The trip saw Doug Scott and Dougal Haston become the first Brits to successfully climb the world’s highest mountain. Throughout 2025, the ‘Everest the Hard Way’ programme of events has been raising funds for Community Action Nepal, the charity that Doug founded, and the event at KMF will contribute to the total, which has now surpassed £140,000.
Berghaus will kick off Sunday morning at KMF with a hike around Kendal, in partnership with community group Hiked.Up. Starting just outside Basecamp at 9:30am, for two hours the sociable walk will showcase the beautiful landscape around the town, including a visit to its 13th Century castle.
Basecamp will host the final highlight of the Berghaus KMF programme, courtesy of the ‘mountaineer’s mountaineer’ Mick Fowler. During a free session on the Basecamp stage at 2:30pm, Mick will entertain his audience with stories from his long career of exploratory climbing, which has earned him three Piolet D’Or Awards and global renown. In recent years, Mick has resumed his partnership with Victor Saunders, and last year they added Yawash Sar to their list of first ascents in the Himalaya.
