Bolle - A major partner of 21st Santos Tour Down Under

Written by

Bollé has a long history of involvement with the highest levels of cycling. The first sports sunglasses ever created by the brand were a cycling model introduced in 1958 for famous cyclists such as Louison Bobet to wear during the Tour de France.

Confirming its involvement at the highest level, the brand will be one of the major partners of the first event of the UCI WorldTour, the 21st Santos Tour Down Under. The event takes place from 10th to 20th of January 2019 and Bollé’s AG2R LA MONDIALE ambassadors will be participating.

The Santos Tour Down Under is the first event of the UCI WorldTour and starts the international pro cycling calendar. This year’s 21st edition will invite athletes and cycling enthusiasts to discover the diversity of the Australian landscapes around Adelaide. Bollé has been a partner of the event for several years and takes an important role in giving information to the spectators and is involved with another attraction of the race – the publicity caravan of several stages.

AG2R LA MONDIALE riders will be equipped with Bollé’s latest expert cycling sunglasses SHIFTER. With its distinguishable retro-futuristic design based on the brand’s famous Chrono Shield model, SHIFTER has already made headlines for its styling. The latest addition to Bollé’s Performance eyewear range, SHIFTER is a tribute to the great cycling history of Bollé and is available with Bollé’s latest lens innovation, Phantom. This cutting-edge lens combines 3 advanced technologies that revolutionises vision in any environment. Made of NXT® material to deliver greater definition, Phantom lens features a molecular photochromic filter adapting to any light condition. Frontal air vents directly integrated into the lens ensure optimal air flow and prevent fogging. Hydrophobic treatment (so that water droplets roll off) and an oleophobic treatment (to repel dirt) keep the cyclist’s vision clear. The curve of the temples improves comfort and stability by allowing more of the hydrophilic Thermogrip® rubber to be in contact with the skin, while leaving room for different types of helmet strap attachments. Also placed on the nose, Thermogrip® rubber ensures a perfect grip during the most intense action.

SHIFTER is available in a wide prescription range (+6 to -8 / cyl-4) and a large choice of tints to cater for any type of weather and light conditions. The lenses are directly inserted into the shield, ensuring all the frame’s properties and optimal visual acuity guaranteed by NXT® material remain.

Cycling enthusiasts will also have the chance to discover the brand’s most advanced road cycling helmet FURO MIPS. This new helmet is the pinnacle of Bollé’s performance road cycling range. Aerodynamic development, ventilation design, and air flow testing inspired by the automotive industry has led to the creation of this high-end helmet. FURO’s design has a very strong personality and is easily recognisable with its two aerodynamic features: a NACA duct allowing increased airflow without additional drag, and a kamm tail providing a smaller wake that reduces the drag for better aerodynamic properties. For ultimate comfort and protection, FURO MIPS features a 360° integrated brain protection system MIPS. By merging the MIPS Low Friction Layer and the brand’s 360° fit system into one elegantly engineered piece, Bollé achieves extra protection against angled impacts, a perfect fit, and provides better ventilation and comfort.
