Written by

The European Outdoor Group (EOG) has announced the appointment of Dan Thompson as its new head of marketing and communications.

Dan joined the EOG in December, filling the role that Arne Strate vacated when he was appointed general secretary. He will lead on the work to provide marketing, communications and events support for the association’s growing portfolio of high-profile projects, delivered throughout Europe on behalf of the membership and wider outdoor industry.

Dan Thompson has over 15 years of experience in the outdoor industry in a wide range of roles. Most recently, he worked at outdoor brand and retailer Alpkit where he was marketing manager for the last three and half years. Prior to that, Dan spent seven years in a series of positions at Equip Outdoor Technologies, including marketing manager for the Rab brand.

The EOG focuses on projects that are aligned to three pillars of principle: Doing business right; preserving nature; and promoting participation. The association undertakes direct work in areas such as market research, CSR and sustainability, public affairs, and events, while also collaborating closely with partner organisations such as the European Outdoor Conservation Association, the It’s Great Out There Coalition and The Microfibre Consortium, and numerous other stakeholders in the outdoor and sporting goods industries. Dan Thompson will be responsible for the EOG’s own marketing, and for the association’s contributions to, and engagement with, external organisations and campaigns.

Dan Thompson comments: “In my 15 years in the outdoor industry, I have been fortunate to work in a variety of jobs and I have gained a strong appreciation of the value of collaboration in our sector. I am now really looking forward to contributing to the next stage of the EOG’s development, supporting and engaging with members, along with other stakeholders and partners.”

Arne Strate adds: “Dan brings some excellent experience and knowledge to the EOG and I am sure that he will be a great asset to the association. We have a really strong team with some exciting plans for the future, and Dan will play an important role in delivering those.”

Dan will be part of the EOG team at the association’s Annual Assembly and then ISPO later this month. To arrange a meeting with Dan, contact him direct on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
