An inspirational environmentalist who shares Finisterre’s love for the sea; Emily’s passion to protect our oceans has seen her lead a number of projects that raise awareness and help tackle marine litter.
After following Emily for some time, advocating and promoting her work via Finisterre’s brand channels, it became increasingly clear that Finisterre would welcome the chance to partner with Emily in an official capacity. Her dedication to turn the tide on the damage caused by microplastics to our oceans closely aligned to Finisterre’s three guiding commitments; to people, environment and product.
Whilst Finisterre’s journey with Emily is only just embarking in an officially capacity, her work to date has seen her travel extensively. Forming and subsequently leading the all-female ‘eXXpedition’ crew who, over the course of two years and 38,000 nautical miles, will welcome 300 women on 31 separate voyages to study plastic pollution at sea. The project currently on pause, due to current circumstances, but set to sail once again in 2021.
In the interim Emily has made the most of her unexpected time on land, launching the SHiFT Platform - a digital tool to help people navigate the hundreds of solutions to tackle ocean plastic pollution. A project that will gain momentum throughout Autumn and Winter to institute a Year of Virtual Impact - creating change by challenging people to rethink their use of single use plastic. Concurrently working with a global network of ambassadors to innovate and create solutions to benefit Planet Earth.
Tom Kay, founder of Finisterre:
“We are lucky to have known Emily for some time now; brought together by a shared love of the sea, protecting it and educating people about its wonders. Her work with eXXpedition is awesome and something we’re fully behind, so we’re really excited to welcome her properly to the Finisterre team as our latest ambassador”
Founded in 2003 as a pioneering, sustainable outdoor brand, Emily’s role as an official ambassador will see her being one of the first to test Finisterre’s sustainable collection of apparel and swimwear. Emily will also help inform and educate Finisterre on how they can further minimise their impact on the environment, champion wider change and inspire a love of the sea.
