Record crowds celebrate another memorable Keswick Mountain Festival

The Thule Keswick Mountain Festival returned to the Lake District over the weekend for what organisers believe was the biggest and most successful edition in the festival’s history.

Around 25,000 people descended on Keswick across the three-day celebration of outdoor sport, adventure, live music and culture, with sold-out sports events, full camping capacity and packed festival spaces taking over the town and surrounding area.

Despite unusually cold May temperatures, festival-goers embraced the conditions throughout the weekend, taking part in a packed programme that featured 18 separate sporting events, 14 guest speakers, more than 20 music acts and over 40 exhibitors and partners. From the adidas TERREX Skiddaw Mountain Run and the KE Adventure Race to lakeside live music, film nights in partnership with Kendal Mountain Festival and a closing talks session from ultrarunning icon Jasmin Paris, the festival once again showcased what makes Keswick such a special destination for outdoor events.

Festival organisers also introduced an expanded Festival Village this year, including a new multi-bar set-up featuring the Mountain Hut Bar, DJ Bar and the new Theakston Lakeside Bar, helping improve visitor experience and capacity across the site.

Jamie Simpson, marketing and commercial director for Keswick Mountain Festival, comments: “This year’s festival felt incredibly special from start to finish. The atmosphere across the whole weekend was amazing, and to see so many people still turn out despite the cold conditions says everything about the spirit of KMF and the outdoor community around it.

“Events of this scale are hugely complex. Over one weekend, we’re delivering 18 sporting events, live music, talks, films, exhibitors, camping and experiences right across the town and surrounding landscape. We’ll never pretend we get every single detail perfect, because with something this ambitious there will always be challenges along the way, but what matters most to us is creating an experience people genuinely love being part of - and the feedback this weekend has been overwhelmingly positive.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who makes the festival possible. To our headline partner Thule, all of our sponsors, suppliers and partners, our brilliant event crews, marshals and volunteers, and of course the people of Keswick and the wider community who welcome us into the town every year and put up with the disruption that naturally comes with an event of this size - thank you. We never take that support for granted.”
