With Kristin Harila’s summit of Shishapangma in Tibet, she officially begins her race against the current record of six months and six days.
“I believe it is possible to finish this attempt in just four months”, Kristin Harila 2023.
With the “She Moves Mountains” 14 peak-expedition, the former elite cross-country skier Kristin Harila is on her way to become a legend in mountain climbing.
Having only climbed her first mountain in 2015, Harila is now the fastest climber to summit the five highest mountains in the world (68 days), the fastest woman from peak to peak between Everest and Lhotse (8.5 hours) and the fastest person to summit six 8,000m mountains in spring in Nepal (25 days).
Harila already attempted this feat last year in 2022. However, with 12 peaks reached, her attempt came to a halt when she was refused a permit from China to climb the last two peaks in Tibet. Refusing to give up on her dream, she is doing it all again.
This year’s adventure started in Tibet, starting her journey on the mountains she couldn’t climb last year. After summitting Shishapangma, Harila will climb Cho You next. Harila will then continue her journey to the other 12 mountains she had previously climbed last year.
Jonathan Petty, VP Home & Outdoor-EMEA Helen of Troy, adds: “We are super excited to see Kristin Harila’s latest achievement of summitting the first mountain of her 14 peaks challenge. We are honoured to be a part of Kristin’s epic adventure and look forward to supporting and sharing her future ascents as a key sponsor. Her sheer determination to accomplish such a challenging project is very inspiring and as a team we are behind her every step of the way.”
