Following on from season five at the start of this year, the small team behind the series are now working on season six - which will feature 14 walks from across Britain. And this time, more of the walks will be around our towns and cities - from Edinburgh and Newcastle to Leeds and Carlisle – to show that walking isn’t just about lush green countryside, but also about the history and heritage of our urban areas.
The sixth season will – like the previous seasons – be part-funded by product placement – whereby kit manufacturers, accommodation providers and other companies associated with walking pay the producers to put their products in the series. Several of the walks will start and end at bus stops, as part of a deal with a national bus company.
The Walks Around Britain brand, which encompases the website, social media accounts, a radio series/podcast as well as the TV series, is owned and run by Yorkshire based Nova Productions, who are based in Doncaster. The TV series was first broadcast on Community Channel – now Together TV – in January 2016, and has since been watched by over 37.2 million viewers in total in the UK.
When finished, season six of Walks Around Britain will be available on Walks Around Britain’s own “Netflix for Walking” subscription streaming platform first, then on Amazon Prime Video and then on to 20 TV channels in the UK which show the series.
Speaking about the new series, Walks Around Britain’s Presenter & Producer, Andrew White said: “We’re thrilled to be able to continue sharing great short walks from across Britain with this, our sixth season. We’ve always concentrated on short walks between 2 – 8 miles – that’s Walks Around Britain’s signature – ideal for families, dogs and silver walkers. Our aim is great more and more people out walking, and we know the walks we show on the TV series inspire many to do just that, because they aren’t too difficult or complex, and always have great stories behind them.”
All the regular Walks Around Britain team will be returning, including White and his two daughters, Alannah and Olivia as well as Leah Hather and Claire Maxted – but joining the team will be blogger Vikkie Lee and narrowboaters Colin & Shaun Dobson-Fox.
The Community Channel is available on Freeview 63, Sky 539, Freesat 651 and Virgin Media 233.
