Three layer Hydroshell™ Elite Pro (hydrostatic head - 20,000mm, breathability – 20,000g/m2/24hrs) features in the Extrem range in the men’s and women’s Mount Asgard Hydroshell™ jackets. Weighing in at only 210g (size large) and 190g (size 12) respectively, the jackets offer storm level waterproof protection in a hurry when it’s most required, along with great breathability and durability. Excellent extended next to the skin comfort comes courtesy of a dry touch, odour resistant Berghaus ARGENTIUM® backer.
The core Trail category of walking and trekking products incorporates a range of men’s and women’s jackets in 2.5 layer Hydroshell™ Elite (hydrostatic head - 15,000mm, breathability – 20,000g/m2/24hrs). These include the Light Trek Hydroshell™ jackets, developed using insights from hikers on the West Highland Way. The Light Treks also offer storm level waterproof protection and the other benefits of the new fabric, including the ARGENTIUM® backer. The jackets are packed with features, including a fixed and fully adjustable hood with wired peak, four pockets and body venting. The men’s jacket weighs 391g (size large) and the women’s weighs 345g (size 12).
The new Hyper Smock 2.0
Designed for running, biking and other high intensity outdoor activities, Hydroshell™ Hyper (hydrostatic head - 15,000mm, breathability – 10,000g/m2/24hrs) is used in the men’s and women’s Hyper Smock 2.0 in the VapourLight collection. Launched as the world’s lightest waterproof smock in 2014, Berghaus has managed to reduce the Hyper Smock’s weight even more, while adding a bigger pocket and improving the hydrostatic head and durability of the face fabric. A men’s large smock now weighs in at just 75g and the new women’s specific smock weighs only 67g (size 12).
Berghaus has also focused on sustainability when developing Hydroshell™, working to develop fabrics that have a lower impact on the environment than their predecessors. Two thirds of the
environmental impact made by apparel occurs during the consumer’s use of a product. Hydroshell™ products have been engineered to substantially reduce their impact on the environment, especially when it comes to excessive water consumption, one of the most environmentally damaging outputs of the textile industry.
Berghaus Hydro Shell
All of the products incorporate long lasting, proven durable water repellency treatments (C6 PFCs), meaning they have to be reproofed less during their lifetime (versus jackets with non PFC DWR treatments, which have to be reproofed, on average, after every two significant uses). The ARGENTIUM® comfort backers also prevent the build up of odour, again reducing the frequency with which products get washed during their lifetime. Meanwhile, the nylon face fabrics used in Hydroshell™ styles offer greater durability than other faces, extending the useful lifetime of the products.
The new range of Berghaus Hydroshell™ products will be available in store from March 2015.
