Debbie is 38 and a mum to four-year-old son Cairn. She is married to an ultra runner and the couple spend much of their time sharing the care of Cairn and running. A lot of miles!
In fact, the Glasgow couple met at local running club the Garscube Harriers and enjoyed their first dates entering marathons. Debbie’s first experience of ultra running was the Devil o’ the Highlands.
A gruelling race, something got Debbie hooked and she has gone, literally, from strength to strength. She took part in her first 100km event, the Anglo Celtic Plate 100K in PerthScotland, in 2011, and then represented Scotland in her first 24hr running event at the Commonwealth Mountain & Ultra Champs in Wales.
In 2012, she took part in her first World 24-hour champs in Poland and broke three Scottish records, 100 miles in 15hrs 48 mins, 200km in 20hrs 55 mins and 217kms in 24 hours.
She was also last year’s winner – beating all men as well as women – in the 145-mile Grand Union Canal Race.
