Nicky Spinks runs fastest ever double Bob Graham Round

Written by

Legendary fell and trail runner Nicky Spinks has taken the record for the fastest ever double Bob Graham Round just a month after seeing her single round Women's record fall to Jasmin Paris.

The inspirational cancer-survivor completed the 132 miles, taking in 84 summits and 54,000ft of ascent in an astonishing time of 45 hours 30 minutes and beating the existing record by over an hour. While the single Bob Graham Round is seen as one of the great challenges of fell running and has multiple attempts each year, the double round has only previously been completed 3 times, with only Roger Baumeister beating the 48 hour mark. In setting the new record Nicky Spinks became the first female to complete the run, second person to complete it in under 48 hours and the fastest completion.

Summiting the final peak for the second time at 7:45pm Nicky arrived at Keswick's Moot Hall, the traditional Start/Finish point, to be met by crowds of supporters and "touched the door" at 9:30pm to shatter the 37 year old record. Up until last month Nicky Spinks also held the women’s record for the fastest standard  Round, following her 18hrs 06mins completion in 2015. That record was bettered in April by Jasmin Paris, who clocked an incredible 15hrs 24mins. Together these two runs have rewritten what many people thought possible and elevate Nicky and Jasmin to legendary status.

Commenting in her blog prior to the attempt Nicky said “I hope to become the first woman to complete the Double Bob Graham Round in less than 48 hours, maybe even breaking Roger’s record time. The main aim, however, is to enjoy it and celebrate the fact that I am still here, living and running ten years after being diagnosed and treated for breast cancer.” With Live Tracking and a constant flow of information from her sponsors Inov-8 Nicky's progress attracted thousands of viewers over the weekend as well as boosting her fundraising appeal on behalf of cancer charity Odyssey. With a target of raising £6,500 smashed, and the figure raised now standing at over £8,500 it's been a record breaking weekend all round.
