Dave Mycroft

Dave is the founder and Editor of MyOutdoors. Having worked previously at Descent, Outdoors Magic and Webtogs Dave has extensive contacts built up over nearly three decades in the outdoor industry. A former Assistant Conservation Officer for Derbyshire Caving Association Dave also does Social Media for Britain on Foot, the national campaign to get more people active and is heavily involved in planning the annual Sheffield Adventure Film Festival. With experience caving, climbing and hill walking on 4 continents Dave has also written conservation plans for English Nature and a walking guide book coveringthe Western Peak District.

Although still calling Buxton home, Dave lives over the Cat & Fiddle in Macclesfield. Having suffered a broken neck in 2010 he is now concentrating more on the back end of MyOutdoors and editing daily, although he still gets out into the hills on a regular basis - just not as far or a fast.

Over the last few years Dave has become more involved in organising adventure photography exhibitions featuring leading photographers and the groundbreaking Industry Hangout networking event at ShAFF as well as organising the ShAFF Fringe.

Trail and Ultra Running Editor

James MacKeddie

With a Scout leader for a mother, James was always destined to enter the outdoors world. Cubs, Scouts and Cadets came and went, but it wasn’t until a week’s adventurous training put on by his school CCF in Snowdonia, that his passion was found. A wet and wild week didn’t dampen spirits, and the following year he returned with a friend for a week of walking and climbing in the Ogwen valley. Since then James has taken part in trail marathons, fell races and an ultra marathon, as well as racking up countless miles on his own over the Lakeland Fells. A ML trainee, come rain or shine, he’ll be out there GoPro in hand, capturing his exploits.

Preferred activities: Trail/Road/Fell Running, hill walking, road cycling, wild camping

Cycling Editor

Stu Thomas

A former bank worker now working for a major national outdoor company Stu is an avid mountain and road cyclist and tests kit for MyOutdoors around the BreconBeacons and South Wales. As a member of South Wales Mountaineering Club stu, along with partner Julie (who also tests for us) also both climbs and walks. When not tearing up mountain bike trails Stu can be found on the road either commuting by bike or taking part in muscle draining sportives in the Peak District.

With his retail experience and insight Stu is able to help us with real time buying trends and reviews based on a wide range of kit for comparisons. Stu has also started writing for MyOutdoors Blog, first documenting his "conversion" to a road cyclist and soon to be reliving some of his recent cycle tours that have taken in both the Balkans and Estonia/Latvia.  You may even be able to pick him out in photos of wild camping in Magillicuddy's Reeks on the site - Stu gets around!

Mountaineering and Climbing Editor

Davy Wright

Most at home in the outdoors, preferably on top of something big and pointy. Scotland is Davy's playground, which is why he doesn’t mind getting wet. But winter is where it’s at. Hiking, scrambling, camping and a bit of climbing when I can. Sucker for a ridge. At a lower altitude he try getting out on his bike and run if he has to.

Davy describes himself as "a bit of a gear geek, maybe less of the bit. I like to see how things work or don’t!"  In following this line Davy has become a respected and authoritative blogger over the last few years, working with many of the UK's major manufacturers and retailers.

Preferred activities: Hillwalking, camping, scrambling, trying to get better at climbing/ice climbing, cycling/mountain biking
