Bergans Cecilie Down Jacket

Written by Fiona Outdoors

You know that feeling when you first try on a new piece of outdoors kit and you just fall head over heels in love with it? This is what happened with the Bergans Cecilie Down Jacket

I test a lot of outdoors clothing, so I have become pretty hard to impress. But since putting on this Bergans women’s jacket I have hardly taken it off.  It is perfect for all kinds of situations, from a chilly dog walk to  high-level mountain hike, and from a cool day relaxing indoors to a meal out at the pub.

The jacket has been designed in collaboration with Cecilie Skog, a 39-year- Norwegian adventurer. Cecilie studied and worked as a nurse before summiting Mount Everest in 2004 and has since worked as a professional adventurer, guide and lecturer.

In 2008, she climbed K2. Her husband Rolf Bae, who had been climbing with her on K2 on August 1, 2008, perished during the descent together with 10 other mountaineers.

Two years later, Cecilie completed the first unassisted and unsupported crossing of Antarctica. Together with Ryan Waters she took 70 days, from November 13, 2009, to January 21, 2010, to complete the 1800km journey across the Antarctic continent.

So you would imagine that Cecilie would know a thing or two about what she wants in a down jacket.

More about the Cecilie Down jacket for women

1500845 10152163666137594 597534124 OThe lightweight down jacket is aimed at active women. It is created with a windproof material. The hand-touch feel of this material is similar to parachute fabric. It is so fine and soft, yet so strong and great at keeping out the wind.

The jacket feels super light despite being very warm and boasting a 750 cuin fill. The medium size weighs 390g. I have worn the jacket as a stand-alone jacket on chilly but dry days and underneath a waterproof outer jacket when I need warmth on wet days.

In a Scottish winter I find that I need an insulated layer when walking and this lightweight down jacket does the perfect job. When I’ve needed to pack it away in my rucksack, the Cecilie jacket compresses down to a small ball.

I also like the extra features in this jacket, such as the longer arms with thumb loops for keeping wrists and upper hands warm without need for gloves. The fabric trim on the torso and arms cuff adds strength to the design of the jacket. And I like the extended back, high neck and extra safe-zip chest pocket.

I am a tall size UK 10 and I found that the size Small fits me perfectly.

The jacket come sin three colours, steel blue, bubblegum and Forest. It’s priced £190 so it’s not the cheapest on the market but it does offer lots of warmth and design for its price. See Bergans Cecilie Down Jacket
