Mammut Foraker Hybrid Jacket tested and reviewed

Mammut Foraker 5

Simple hem adjustment

What's made the Foraker so hard to assess is working out exactly what it's for. It's not got enough Polartec Alpha to be a full insulated jacket and while it's both breathable and wind resistant it doesn't match up to a dedicated windproof layer, so what's it actually for? Somehow, though, this middle-ground approach has worked. Once you stop looking for its niche and just start wearing it the Foraker becomes a real jack-of-all-trades. Where walks and climbs were once punctuated by enforced stops for clothing changes the Foraker does just enough to carry on without a change. The insulation never gets too overbearing while the stretch panels dissipate heat even under heavy exertion.
