Abandoning conquest

Today I saw a Tweet suggesting you conquer a hill in your lunchtime. A fine idea you’d imagine, and it is, but something about the language grated.

Skin Up to and Ski Off the Cairngorm

For a while now I have wanted to ski tour, finally I managed to get the gear together to be able to! So I headed for the Cairngorm, I had…

I haven’t had much luck with walking trousers. Until now! I have finally found a pair of women’s walking trousers that fit nicely, stretch with my every move, don’t ride up or rub while I walk, even when I’m a bit sweaty – and actually look as good on the hills as they do at the pub. The trousers are made by one of my favourite brands, too, Arcteryx. (It’s just as well that I’ve found these trousers because for more than a decade I have been wearing a pair of Billabong outdoor trousers that are very, very threadbare, faded and have big tears at the leg ends. The G-Force has been moaning that they look very bad. Very bad indeed!) But the G-Force says he loves the look of the Arcteryx Gamma Walking Trousers – and he wishes he had a pair of the male version Arcteryx.

As a Mountaineering Instructor, I was looking for a work pant that would look good, be lightweight, flexible, comfortable, windproof and waterproof and durable.

Rab Kinetic Pants tested and reviewed

I can’t say I’m much of a fan for waterproof trousers. It’s something we are often told to pack during Scouts and Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and now outside of the awards it’s something I often have to remind myself to pack.

We are at the end of this years winter season, for the most part it’s been a poor and wet winter. There has been some moments but not enough as usual. However, winter brings a change in wardrobe regardless of how the precipitation falls. The primary defence layer from the elements is the hard shell, the layer that encapsulates you and any other layers below that will be attempting temperature regulation in adverse conditions.

There has been speculation that we at My Outdoors can be ‘elitist’ when it comes to our gear reviews. This is not strictly true, the reviews we publish are from a variety of brands that produce gear of very high quality. However, we can only review gear that is made available for us. That said there are a lot of outdoor gear manufacturers producing gear that is affordable and of considerable quality. It is our goal at My Outdoors to bring our readers a sample from all of the brands available to us as outdoors goers.
