Hi-tec Sierra Lite Original women's boot Reviewed

Written by Fiona Outdoors

When does a walking boot become a causal kick-around boot? Or, when do trainers become walking boots? The answer: When Hi-tec brings out the Sierra Lite Original Women’s (and Men’s) boot.

I couldn’t decide if the boot was best suited to popping to the shops, walking the dog on muddy trails or climbing a local hill. In the end I tried the Sierra Lite boot on all occasions and while I was doubtful about the footwear’s ability to serve all different uses they do so pretty well.

This boot is not for serious hill walking. It doesn’t have high grip soles or Gore-Tex waterproofing but then Hi-tec haven’t created this boot for mountain goats. This is the boot that can be worn to school, office, pub, dog walking and for a stroll on a countryside trail (that’s if you don’t mind messing up the fab range of colours, including beige with a choice of orange or grey laces, a pink boot and a navy boot).

Hi-tec say the Sierra Lite Original boot offers:

  •  Lightweight suede/mesh hiker
  • Suede and mesh upper
  • Versatile lacing system for secure fit
  • Moisture-wicking lining keeps the foot dry
  • Soft padded collar for added comfort
  • Removable EVA sockliner for added cushioning.
  • Durable rubber MDT hiking outsole
  • Product available in sizes: UK 4-8

What I think about the Sierra Lite Original boots

The colours are bold and different and would be one of the reasons for buying these Hi-tec boots. If you like to co-ordinate jeans and casual clothes with comfortable footwear these are a winner. You can even change the colour of the laces to suit your mood! The boots are also ultra-comfortable to wear and from the moment you put them on you feel as though you have always worn them.

The laces can be tied loosely for a more casual fit or securely to offer decent support when walking trails or pavements. Versatility is another key attraction because the boots would serve just as well on a casual day at the office, on a shopping weekend or for a stroll with friends in the countryside. Mud and rain will mess the look of the boots but they can be easily washed down. If oyu are walking on a hot day - or a long way – it's good to have the breathable liner for maintaining sweat free-feet.

Grip is adequate for dry conditions on small hills but better for dry trails. Very wet and muddy conditions will require boots with more grip and waterproofing.

In some cases I have seen these boots described as trainers. They feel like trainers with ankle support and, as such, are most ideal for tarmac type terrain or firm walkways.

As outdoors clothing merges with everyday wear – you see so many more people wearing waterproof jackets and walking boots for general kicking about – these Hi-tec boots are a great buy. I really like the idea of high fashion walking boots!
