Rohan Envoy Suit

A travel suit designed for the traveller. Lightweight and fast drying the Rohan Envoy is crease, stain and odour resistant and easy to wash. With zipped security pockets and twin back vents the Rohan Envoy ticks all the boxes for the traveller needing an occasional professional look.

What the manufacturers say:

Looking smart when you check in is easy. Looking professional when you arrive, though, is what really counts.

If you’re travelling in an ordinary suit, it’s almost impossible.

Our Envoy Jacket, by contrast, is made from a crease-resistant blend of natural wool and technical performance fibres which have been treated with a stain-repellent Advanced Teflon™ finish. The light, comfortable, highly breathable lining incorporates sophisticated Polygiene® silver anti-bacterial technology.

Which means you can forget about deal-breaking sweaty backs, unpleasant odours or unfortunate stains and concentrate on one thing: working – smarter.

The fit has been comprehensively re-engineered for 2013. We’ve been working hand-in-hand with our highly-skilled pattern cutter in Portugal to produce a contemporary but still very classic fit that’s right up to date now – but will still look great in five years’ time.

The jacket is an understated British two-button design with four-button working cuffs and twin back vents with concealed buttons. Which means you can commute to work on your bike – without your jacket getting in the way.

On the inside, you’ll find a zipped wallet pocket, a zipped passport pocket and a buttoned mobile phone pocket. There’s two pen slots and a hidden, in-seam security pocket sized to take a small stash of cash or a credit card.

On the outside, the working breast pocket fastens with touch-and-close tabs – it’s just the place for keeping your travel tickets nice and handy but safe and secure.

The Envoy Jacket can obviously be dry cleaned – but it can also be washed in the machine or by hand.

Price: Jacket £235, Trousers £115

Men's Envoy Trousers

Our Envoy Trousers team up with our Envoy Jacket to form the world’s ‘smartest’ travel suit.

They’re cut from a crease-resistant blend of natural wool and technical performance fibres which have been finished with a stain-repellent Advanced Teflon™ finish.

Which, when you add it up, means you can forget about unsightly creases, sweaty legs or unfortunate stains and concentrate on one thing: working – smarter.

The fit has been re-engineered for Spring 2013. We’ve been working very closely with our pattern cutter in Portugal to produce a slimmer, more contemporary fit. They’re still very classic, though, and certainly not the sort of thing that’s going to be out of fashion in two years’ time.

They’re a classic, flat front design with a button and hook bar fastening and a fly extension – they look very smart and you can be sure of one thing – the waist isn’t going to bust open after the first big lunch.

There are two deep hand pockets, an inside zipped pocket and a buttoned rear pocket.

The Envoy Trousers are fully machine washable and dry very quickly. The addition of polyester and elastane to the blend makes them very straightforward to iron – it’s simple to achieve a professional look with amateur ironing skills and it’s certainly a practical option to take just one pair on a week long business trip. Meaning you’ll have even more space in your carry-on bag for extra files and more work – there’s progress!

The hems are unfinished at around 37” for your tailor to turn up to suit.

Rohan Envoy Suit

The Rohan Envoy suit has been around for a few years now but a recent "re-engineering" has seen it emerge as probably the ultimate travel suit. With a travel suit you're looking for a rare combination of features in a garment that. let's face it, doesn't really lend itself to being hauled around the globe stuffed in a rucksack. First it has to look good enough to get you into that restaurant after days of dehydrated meals or airplane food and to do that it needs to look as though it's been taken of a coathanger rather than from the contents of a drybag. It has to shed creases like a flysheet sheds water and it's got to retain that look for when a fortnight later it's pulled out again without washing or hanging.

Beyond the crease resistance a good travel suit needs to remember the "travel" part of its description. A traveller is likely to be carrying a few more essentials than the average day to day suit wearing population, with passports, currency, tickets and assorted documentation and these need keeping safe. The twin internal zipped pockets on the jacket, one on each side, provide enough space to accomodate the essentials invisibly, with barely any impact on the jacket's classic lines - and just in case there's a further "hidden" credit card size pocket. The trouser pockets are deep, with an additional zipped security pocket inside the right hand pocket ideal for your hotel key card.

Internal pocket

With a combined weight of 1kg the Envoy feels like a summer suit but the 50% wool content adds enough insulation for a lakeside walk in early Spring. The Polyester content adds to the wickability of the suit while also helping drying times; The whole suit is machine washable and dries naturally in around 6 hours. When it comes to packing the jacket will fit inside a 2 ltr cooking pot if you're really trying to save space or you can just stuff the suit into whatever space is available in your pack. When the Envoy is described as crease resistant it really means it! In our test we carried the jacket inside a 2 litre MSR pot with the trousers scrunched into the end pocket of a sports bag for a good 48 hours before extracting it for use at this year's Outdoor Industry Association AGM and Conference at the Low Wood in Windermere. After a couple of days use it was back in the bag for a day before coming out again at Sheffield. Quite simply it did what it said on the tin. On each occassion the creases didn't just fall away, there was never a sign of them having existed at all.

Envoy jacket in a 2ltr pot

Around the hotel the suit was extremely comfortable. The waist band on the trousers and elastene content allowed a little post-dinner expansion without bursting any buttons while the jacket was breathable enough in a crowded bar yet warm enough for an early morning stroll alongside the lake. The pockets held everything required without bulging and with their vertical rather than horizontal zips were wonderfully accessible. If anything was spilt over the duration of the Conference and the following week there was no sign of it having landed, never mind stained.

Buttoned rear vent

The Envoy trousers arrive with 37" legs; think man on stilts, so you'll need to have them adjusted to fit and it's worth getting this done professionally if possible. At £350 for the jacket and trousers the Envoy costs a serious amount of money and it shows. You could remove the "travel" tag and just judge it as a suit and you wouldn't be disappointed in it's style, cut or quality of workmanship at the price. The additional "travel" specific features from zipped and hidden pockets to machine washable and fast drying fabric just mean it's a suit that can live with an active and adventurous lifestyle.
